I have a networking background and no programming experienceI have spent a lot of time reading this book and I find it very difficult and uninteresting to readIt is a real drag to read and explanations are unnecessary boring The programs are also a bit abstractIt s like a general theoretical introduction but no real useful programs that you want to make that could also be easy to codeSometimes things appear to be random in the code for no reason or explanation For example the code has a few double uotation marks which I can t work out what they do Other times the author goes overkill on specifics to the point of causing the reader to hope for death This causes the reader to skip bits which presumably is unhelpfulI would have preferred the writer to have specificed what program he was going to teach us and then the components we need to know to write the codeBut I suppose it must be difficult to write an interesting book on programming

Have the headfirst java but I find this a little better to follow so far I ve been an oracle developer for 15 years and looking to cross train so the slow pace can be a litttle bit frustrating but you can skip aheadLike other languages what you learn as a newbie isn t necessarily what you use in real lifeBut I am going to stick with the book as a precursor to get the exam prep books
